As you may know, it's incredibly easy to sniff out traffic on a public wifi network to essentially monitor someones connection. People might do this to gain passwords to servers or to see which websites you visit or emails you send. This article will show how you can encrypt your traffic using a socks5 proxy using mozilla firefox on both the MAC and PC platforms. You do NOT need to understand what a socks5 proxy is to enjoy the benefits of this protection. I can show you just how easy it is, and just remember we are simply going to encrypt your data so that no "man in the middle" attacks will leave you vulnerable. If you would like help setting this up just give us a call, it's quite a fast procedure, done far quicker than it takes to tell you how to do it yourselves. What you will need: a MAC or PC, and a hosting account or server you can access via ssh (email us for details on getting your own (at cost), and we do have an ssh server available for limited use to existing clients, email us for the address). NOTE: to see the following videos better click the fullscreen button in the bottom right of each video. PC users: Download and run the free (open source) PuTTY, a free telnet/ssh client, then view our how-to video: Mac users: Download and run the free SSHTunnel 1.6 from Apple's website, then view our how-to video: |
