Audio on the go

soundflyA.k.a. the cool gadgety thing of the month. If you have an older model car as myself that doesn’t have bluetooth or iPod capabilities built in you may be interested in the SoundFly SD. I picked up one of these recently and can share that it works as advertised – quite well. It beams any mp3′s you have on a SD card (or usb flash drive, and standard headphone jack input!) to your cars fmradio.  What I like about this unit and other fmbroadcasters is that it has a nice strong signal, AND its an all in one device. What I was looking for was an fmbroadcast solution for the car, without a lot of investment, and this fits the bill at only $35.00 from amazon! (unfortunately we don’t sell these).  Personally I don’t really need an iPod as I have a small portable player for running/walking with, but did need a way to get my growing mp3 collection into the car, this sure beats burning CDRW’s every time I wanted to bring some music to the car. By the way – if I can save anyone some time, I previously bought an LG Fusic phone with mp3 and fm eye-fi sharebroadcasting built in, but its fm broadcast signal is way too weak to use in car.

2GB SD Eye-Fi Card $99

EYEFI2GB
The Eye-Fi Card is a wireless SD memory card for digital cameras. It stores pictures like a standard SD memory card, but also uses a home Wi-Fi network to automatically upload images from the camera to a PC or Mac and to the user’s favorite photo or social networking website for sharing or printing. No cables, no cradles, no fuss. Yes, there really is Wi-Fi inside that tiny little card. It will change the way people take, save and share photos. The Eye-Fi Card comes with everything needed to make it simple to set up and connect to your home Wi-Fi network. After that, pop the card into your digital camera and start capturing those memories. It stores pictures like a regular SD card no matter where you are, and uploads your photos automatically as soon as you return to your home network. All you have to do is turn the camera on.  For more info and other interesting variations (geotagging!) on this card, see their homepage before ordering with us.

Almost Photoshop, for windows

artweaverArtweaver isn’t a “open source” program as we usually feature, but in terms of end user experience at low/no cost, it might as well be, it’s free!. Artweaver seeks to mimic the layout and basic toolset of photoshop. I’ver tried it out and it certainly does that well, to a point, though I find the Gimp or paint.net are programs I use more often in my image manipulations..

Another cool new free software plugin for MS Outlook users: Xobni.

Xobni is a free plugin for outlook that allows you to make sense of your existing social networks within your email, automatically. For a full demo click here.  Thanks to Marc E for pointing this out to me.I have not tried it but from what I can see I’d expect it to perform well.
