headerHello and welcome again! I’ve posted another couple of videos, this time on virtualization, focusing on server virtualization and virtual appliances in particular. LINK TO BE UPDATED with a general intro/overview.

Compact Fluorescents are so yesterday folks. Not that a lot of people exactly like CFL’s. Still, we find them acceptable here, and they use   a fraction of the power of incandecents. -but- I’ve been concerned about the mercury that’s in them and worry that my son may break one inadvertently. I’ve been keenly watching the LED market over the last few years and they are now making some great progress. We finally have some warmer colors and a true 360 degree beam. It you break one you may be out $50, but you won’t ledshave a mercury spill in your house. Here’s the results of my latest tests with some new products out, as well as some links to the testing I did last year with what was available then. Pictured is a 3 LED high power fixture.

Here are some of my favorite links from the past few weeks:

Last week we talked about our small off grid solar setup. If you are interested in renewable energy technology and hands on projects, I’d highly recommend Home Power magazine. Florence I.T. has sponsored the subscription for the magazine at Forbes Library since 2005.

And speaking of Libraries.. the kindle2 is out and improves much on it’s predecessor. I’ve read some great reviews and my father in law is thrilled with his. it’s the “can’t be beat for ease of use” e-reader king. For alternatives checkout the sony PRS-500 and PTS-700. For iphone users you must checkout Stanza and ereader 1.3, and of course kindle ebooks on your iphone which my wife’s been enjoying. I’m still using an old ebookwise device but it works well and was cheap, but the kindles newspaper subscriptions is looking appealing.

The gadgety thing this month is the samsung memoir phone/camera.  This 8MB camera might just let you leave your digital camera at home. check out the product info here. What a sweetie. ;)

Until next time…

thank you,

Matt
