This month I have a for you a burst of little info snippets on all the things that matter most (at least around here): technology, environment, conservation and more. If you followed my twitter stream you would have got this, and other great tech/enviro news, weeks ago  The product I’m most excite to tell you about this month is the Flock web browser. This is a social “media-ized” Firefox. I’m not sure if it’s open source (like firefox, which it’s based on), but it’s free. I like that the new version has an integrated twitter feed, and it makes checking my alternate yahoo account much easier. It integrates seemlessly with video and picture sharing sites, facebook and more. Needless to say this is far more than we used, and will be banked/credited through Mass Electric to get us close to a zero net energy home. The Microsoft Vista Service Pack 2 is available for download now. Alternately you can have it download automatically at or around June 30 with windows updates. I’ve just installed it here with no problems, but caution anyone considering it to email me for more info. A couple of months agowe ran windows update on a Windows 2008 Small Business Server we installed. The windows updates ruined the whole Exchange email and collaboration server. We were on the phone with Microsoft all day repairing the server. This, from a standard windows update. Use caution. Make a backup first. I’d like to wrap up this short edition of our monthly newsletter with a reminder to backup your data! Business users and owners so often are too busy to adequately monitor and regularly test their backup and disaster recovery systems. – Your business can easily afford the modest cost of one of our monthly backup and server maintenance plans, that cost far less than the emergency rate (50% higher than the applicable rate) we charge for failure response, and the unestimable cost of permanently lost data. – Just this month we’ve experienced 3 customer cases of lost data due to failed hard drives. Let us quote you an adequate backup and server maintenance plan and you can relax, if there are problems we WILL tell you about it and offer solutions to remedy them.
