Hello $contact_first_name! So sorry we didn’t have a newsletter in August, there no time, but I will make it up to you this month! I suspect many of you were gone on vacation much of the month hopefully anyhow. I managed a short weekend getaway last weekend and it was very relaxing but I’m glad to be back as we are doing so many exciting things. To stay a little more current consider following us on twitter, or check our homepage often, where I have a An interesting thing I’ve been using for the last few months is Vlingo for Blackberry (and available for iPhone, though it’s not as useful on that platform). With Vlingo I can email someone, search the web, call a contact, take a memo to myself, update twitter or facebook (and more) by using my voice. Once this week I was driving to Greenfield and it was a particularly beautiful day, so I updated my twitter status saying as much. Think how fabulous this is: updating my website’s home page with my voice from my phone! If this interests you and/or you need some help let me know. Otherwise just install it on your phone, it’s pretty amazing software, and does offer a few of it’s features free of charge. We’re now a Blackberry Authorized Reseller. This means we sell, support and install Blackberry Enterprise Server , and Blackberry Professional (exchange link for Small businesses with up to 30 users). This is the seamless gateway between your Easy to use Encryption The open source application of the month this time is TrueCrypt! This powerful encryption application meets high standards for encryption and is EASY to use. Just create a encrypted file of a specified size, or encrypt an entire drive or partition. Mount the file or partition as a drive letter with your password, and you have a new place to copy sensitive files. Note that for an organization with a server this isn’t really necessary if we’ve setup secure folders for you on your server. But, this might be good if you just WANT an extra layer of security, and/or for a small or home office encryption solution. Check it out, if you want to save yourself an hour we can help install, configure and training you on using it. Backupand disaster recovery HP has some new RDX backup drives and we’re offering them as well for a backup solution. Instead of tapes the system uses hard drive cartridges. The drive is affordbale (about $500.00) but the cartridges are a little more costly (the opposite of good tape systems). The HP system’s advantage over tape is faster read/write access. Depending on your data size tape may be cheaper. Our prefered tape manufacturer drives come with 3 year hotswap warranties. We also have started an arrangement with a regional online backup provider that may be applicable for some of you, but in order for economics to make sense I need to get a few custoemrs online first. For now, tape is still the most affordable way to get regular, automated, point in time, archivable data offsite. Windows 7 I’ve been using it here for a month or so (we have a Microsoft subscription that allows us to use any and all of their software inhouse). Anhow, all I can say about Windows 7 is that it’s what Vista should have been. It’s fast and stable. New pc’s come with a free upgrade, until it’s released: Oct 22, 2009. Until next time… thank you!
