eBooks!
Barnes and Noble has their new ebook reader coming out called the “Nook“. I’m very excited about this reader as it builds on whats so successful about the Kindle. Nook offers the same e-ink technology, plus a secondary VGA screen for browsing books. E-ink is so important because the way it works is it draws the screen as you turn the page, and then once the page is drawn, no further power is required. The disadvantage is that you can’t read in the dark. It’s probably better for your eyes though.
And yes it has wireless bookbuying through the cellular network, just like the Kindle.
THE best feature in my opinion is the Nook’s “lending” ability. Finally someone get’s it: Most eBooks can be lent for up to 14 days at a time. Just choose the eBook you want to share and send it to your friend’s nook – or to any computer or cell phone with Barnes & Noble’s eReader software downloaded on it.
My old ebook reader from ebookwise.com is still cranking along just fine, and I love the backlight so I can read without disturbing the spouse. But still, I’m wanting a Nook, too bad you can’t be guaranteed one by the holidays. Happy reading!
old stuff….
We have a used 500gb external drive and a low powered laptop (previously used as the server for our solar powered website) if you’re interested. they’re on our ebay page and bidding ends tomorrow.
One HECK of a router, and then some, for home or home office
One of the most exciting products I’ve come across lately is the Dlink DIR-685. This is a wireless N router, 5 port 1000mbps switch, digital picture frame, NAS (network attached storage) via internal hard drive, iTunes server. Also it’s a USB print server (connect any usb device to the router and you can access it on you PC or MAC: a printer, flash drive, hard drive drive, whatever). It even has an FTP server built in so you can access your files remotely. And if that’s not all, it features a built-in UPnP® AV server, streaming network stored videos through a compatible media player (including PlayStation® 3 and Xbox 360®) onto your television.
This is obviously geared toward the home or home office market, and not your office, but I thought I’d mention it as it works quite well and is pretty innovative offering so many features in one tiny box. Pretty much the only weak areas are that the NAS file access speed isn’t as fast as other (much more expensive) NAS’s, the fan can be loud(ish), and that the photo frame is much too small. We can offer them for $280.00 delivered and they are in stock.
Thank you so much everyone and stay warm! |
